Whether the kitchen in your unit is big or small, your grandchild will love learning some of your skills and recipes. Ask him or her if they have a favorite dish or treat from your kitchen and then teach them to make it! Not only will you fill their belly with yummy food, you will create a memorable time together for years to come.
Show and Tell
Yep, you heard that right! Show and tell isn’t just for kindergarten. Grandparents and grandchildren can create a deep, meaningful connection when they share stories, objects, and experiences with each other. Ask your grandchild to bring something they would like to show you and tell you about, and have something ready to share as well. Often times, these planned discussions lead to the best unexpected discussions that deepen our bond with each other.
Read a Chapter Book
If you have a grandchild that comes regularly, reading a chapter book together is a special treat for both of you. Take turns picking the book to be read, and you can enjoy quality time together as you participate in your own mini book club. If your grandchildren live far away, take advantage of technology and read over the phone, or video chat through Skype or Facetime. Give Each Other a Manicure
This activity is great for grandkids at any age. Little ones and teenagers alike will love coming to visit if it means pampering is involved! It is easy to turn your room into a beauty salon for the occasion. Grab some inexpensive bottles of nail polish and nail files for a few dollars. Take turns painting as you catch up on each other’s lives, as well as the latest and greatest in books and movies of course!
