Military Family Appreciation Month
Back
"Our nation owes each day of security and freedom that we enjoy to the members of our Armed Forces and their families. Behind our brave service men and women, there are family members and loved ones who share in their sacrifice and provide unending support."
- President Obama
Every November since 1996, the President of the United States signs a proclamation that marks the beginning of a month long celebration of the Military Family. The month honors military families serving around the world through a variety of observances and recognizes those for their commitment and the many contributions that they make every day in support of the military and our nation.
Members of our Armed Forces have been defending our country with unwavering courage for more than two centuries. These brave patriots leave behind everything they know and love to step forward to answer America’s call. As these soldiers help secure our freedom and democracy, their families sacrifice along with them.
During Military Family Month, we recognize every spouse, parent, sibling, child and loved one who stand with our troops. The selflessness of these families tells a story of unfailing duty and devotion. With grace and resilience, these military families endure the absence of their loved ones and bear the burdens of war. When the battle finally ends and our soldiers return home, their families support their transition and recovery.
This November we as a Nation will come together to celebrate our country’s military families and honor their loyalty to not only our service members but our country. Military Family Appreciation month may take place in November, but the impact of the honor, courage, and commitment of these families is felt and should be honored every day of the year.
